TAIPEI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Since its founding in 1969, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra has built up a huge performed repertoire and become one of the most sought-after ensembles in Taiwan. Noted for its excellence in artistic expression and efforts to promote cultural interchanges, the TSO also plays a role in advocating for better music education. In recent years, it has participated in projects like “Culture in the Lanes—Community Concerts” and “School Concerts” to bring music to lives of the people and create a literate environment for the city’s many families, communities, and schools. The orchestra is now subordinate to Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government. Five general directors (Chang-kuo Teng, Tun-chu Chen, Felix Chen, Chia-Chu Hsu, and currently Wei-Ming Hwang from December 2009) have led and shaped the orchestra’s growth.
